Jeep Car Camping Overland Style - Lost Bunker Found

Another Jeep Overland Car Camping adventure exploring the Central Oregon Desert.

This trip was all about trying to track down a lost bunker that I stumbled across something like 10 years before this trip. I also wanted to search out the area for a couple old historic homestead sites and see if I could track down a prohibition era illegal whiskey still site.

Along the way I share the adventure, the amazing off road trails I travel, some of my overlanding gear and car camping set up, and anything else interesting I come across along the way.

Camping, Fishing, & Bushcraft - Overnight Canoe Fishing at a Stillwater Lake

My father and I head out to a hidden lake in hopes of catching some beautiful still water lake trout using a canoe, well at the same time having an overnight camping trip using some new gear.

I and my father arrived at the lake with the canoe and gear early in the morning to find it had been once again destroyed by careless people. We found garbage and a smoldering fire, as well as many live trees cut down for no reason. After we cleaned the camp and set up our tent and organized our gear, we decided to get out fishing. We tried our luck using many lures; I opted for a silver spinner well my father used his old fly rod with a purple bug. Sadly the fishing came with no luck to our surprise, as a friend and I had managed to land 22 fish with in less than two days on that lake just a few weeks before. After the unsuccessful fishing, I decided it was time to build ourselves a fire. I gathered wood well my father went back out on the lake to fish. I got the fire going, and my father came back in once again without a fish. We cooked our food into the darkness of night, ate, and enjoyed the rest of the night by the fire until we finally decided it was time to hit the hay. The next morning, we awoke and were greeted with an overcast sky, and some fish jumping on the water. We got the fire going, cooked our breakfast, and immediately got back onto the water to try our luck. We fished for the majority of the day, and once again finally called it quits because the fish just hadn't seemed to be biting no matter what we had put on the end of our line. We came back ashore and decided to pack our gear and head out, concluding our unsuccessful yet enjoyable fishing trip in the Canadian wilderness.

CLEVER CAMPING HACKS

People love camping and traveling! And I want to help you make this time most comfortable and fun possible with these hacks.

I often faced this problem on the beach. When you need to take off your swimming panties wet from the water but all dressing booths are occupied and you're in a hurry, no time to wait. I got you!

Check out the way to take off your panties without taking your shorts or pants off.

Take your scissors and cut them on the both sides. Then sew 2 swimming bra locks on the cut edges of your bikini accordingly. Voila! Now all you need to do next time you're on the beach is unlock these locks and remove your panties with a mere flick of your wrist.

Simple and genius way to deal with sweat - take off your bra and apply 1 hygienic pad to each bra cup.

Another handy hack is trash sorting. Here's how you do it. Take a trash bucket, then add 3 bags of different colors. Keep them together using 4 clothing pegs.

If you need to go out light, hands free but don't know where to put your keys at, I've got an idea. Make a shoelace key holder. It's very neat. You can run or jump or just walk fast and nothing will happen with the key.

If you like to make lunch breaks or brunches with your friends in the open air, here's an idea for a foil dinnerware. Take a piece of foil and wrap it round the bowl or can, any vessel of needed volume. Then take a foil of, it'll have the form of your bowl, now you can use it as usual.

Day pack with waterproof liner

Drink bottle – 1 to 2 litre

Packed lunch and snacks – pack more than you think you'll need

Fully charged mobile phone ­– some areas don't have reception, and you may want to consider other forms of communication.

Personal medication, eg antihistamines, asthma medication

Extra base layer and socks

Rubbish bag

Map of the area you'll be walking

Toilet paper in a plastic bag – if track toilets are non-existent or scarce dig down 10 cm and make sure it’s at least 100 m from any streams, rivers or lakes

Emergency equipment

Basic first aid kit including hand sanitiser, sunscreen and insect repellent

Camping at at Kanchani Kharak in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, at around 15, 000 feet altitude, our camp is barely illuminated by the stars. Yet our Sony A7S low light camera shows up the stars and our tents, as well as the mountains behind, due to its high sensitivity and low-light abilities.

In the shadow of the mighty peak of Chaukhamba, our porters take in a little heat from the kitchen fire before they retire for the night. The peaks look divine bathed in star-light. What a surreal Himalayan moment, to be camped in early winter on a freezing alpine meadow, with the peaks glistening to the brilliant starlight!

You'll see what I bring for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and drinks. I also show you what I'm bringing for my husband which is more of the typical camping food such as brats, burgers, sandwiches etc... except it is all Vegan. Superior Hiking Trail WEEKEND Backpacking Trip (Oberg Mt To Cascade River)

Everyday life can make the trail seem far away. To go backpacking you need time. Time to plan. Probably some time to travel. You need time to hike! But hopefully, you have at least one incredible trail within reach - the kind of trail you can get away to for a quick weekend trip. For us, it's the Superior Hiking Trail, also known as the SHT.

We've been hiking the Superior Hiking Trail for a few years now. In fact, it was the trail we hiked on our first real backpacking trip. It's the perfect blend of pristine natural areas and accessibility. Located on Minnesota's famous North Shore, just a few hours from the Twin Cities, it's great for short trips. This footpath's varied terrain, rugged northern beauty, and friendly shuttle service, keep us coming back for more.

When we were new to backpacking, the Superior Hiking Trail was a fantastic place to build our skills and gain experience. Numerous trips on the trail prepared us for more challenging and remote backpacking adventures like the Sierras and Rockies Every season the Superior Hiking Trail is our training ground and our home in the northern woods.

If you're ever in Minnesota, we highly recommend checking out this trail. But wherever you are, we encourage you to find YOUR weekend trail. When you do, or if you already have, share it with us! We'd love to hear about that favorite trail you visit time and again.

Whats in our Hiking Backpacks

Having a successful hiking trip depends in part on the supplies and gear you have inside your backpack. To assure you are prepared for the open trail, consider the length of the hike and your backpack capacity. In addition to your gear, it is important you have everything packed properly and within easy reach. Focusing on a light load also reduces the chance of muscle strain and discomfort.

Nutrients

Pack your hiking backpack around what you are going to eat. Include food that withstands varying weather conditions, such as beef jerky and packaged snacks. Ensure that everything is sealed, and keep nuts, trail mix, dried or dehydrated foods fresh and moisture-free. Keep poultry and meat cool with ice packs and a cooler. Depending on your excursion plans and location, bring a bear container to protect food from prying four legged animals. Pack enough water and fluids to accommodate the length of your trip, and store it in side pockets for easy access. If you will be gone for several days, consider a lightweight, portable water filtration system.

First Aid

Prepare a well-stocked, lightweight first-aid kit. Include adhesive bandages, compress dressings, antibiotic ointment, cloth tape, aspirin, scissors, gauze pad and tweezers. Add important medications and emergency contact information.

Camping Gear

Choose lightweight and portable camping gear. Use a backpacking tent rather than a camping tent because it weighs less and packs conveniently on the outside top of your pack. Attach your sleeping bag, pad, blanket and pillow to the outside bottom of your backpack to allow for more interior room. Secure your camping stove or portable fuel tank in the middle or bottom of the pack, while using clothing to surround fragile items to prevent breakage.

Often Used Items

You can easily pack too many items for your trip, leading to exhaustion and a ripped or worn backpack. Do not allow the pack capacity to exceed 30 percent of your total body weight. Pack your basic necessities such as a lightweight pot, simple cooking utensils, bug spray, sunglasses, rain gear, knife, compass and map. But keep your pack as lightweight as possible by using items that weigh as little as possible.

Winter Camping: Keeping Warm In Cold Weather

BlackWaterBushcraft demonstrates how to stay warm in the depths of winter.

Blood flow is extremely important in staying warm. When you are feeling cold it is important to get your heart pumping and your blood flowing. That being said, you do not want to sweat in the winter. Your clothing will absorb the moisture which will in turn make you even colder. Never buy or wear any winter clothing that is restrictive in any way. Keep your boot laces a bit looser than normal and don’t wear too many layers of socks. Too many layers of socks will restrict blood flow, it is much better to wear one decent weight wool pair. You loose body heat the quickest through your wrists, neck and head so bundle up. Wool clothing is king in the winter, it keeps you warm even when wet. When staying warm is a constant battle, every decision you make is crucial to your survival. But when you challenge winter and thrive, it quickly becomes peaceful and cozy. 2018 ULTRALIGHT 7lb thru-hiking Gearlist, With Full Cook Kit

Heres my ~7lb ultralight gear list. I am not a thru hiker, I used "thru-hiking"in the title to increase the range of my audience. However, I think this list would work very well on a thru hike with a few minor modifications.

I kept costs and weight of this list low by making, modifying, and buying second hand a lot of the items shown here. Im sure I left a few small critical items out (like ID, cash, Paper maps) and forgot to discuss some items in detail but this is the meat and potatoes of this years list for me.

Like I said in the video, for bug protection i will use my DIY hexamid tent once I finish making it.

I can get this list even lighter by getting or making a nicer quilt and using my lighter quilt for the summer months. Can drop even more weight by dropping the cook kit (which i do occasionally when its warmer out) and leaving behind items like the battery pack on shorter trips.

The hammock itself seems to do the job well. It hangs well and is sturdy. The bag that everything is housed in is small and light, excellent for carrying along or placed in a larger ruck. However, I paid for a new product, yet both carabiners that came with the hammock were scratched and one of them looked bent--this was straight out of the plastic bag and nylon bag that it comes in. My bug out (camping/survival) bag

My bug out bag is the 5.11 All Hazards Prime.

I am preparing for the bug out bag mainly for disaster strike at camping. The camp sites in Taiwan isn't as safe as it looks. Most of the camp sites are not "legal", in which the roads that reaches to the site aren't safe and can be damaged easily during the extreme weather condition.

The nearest town can be 20~30 minutes away by car, which if roads are blocked.

When disaster strikes, electricity, food, etc. can be cut off.

A hiking trip to Bukit Kutu, KKB, Malaysia. We woke up pretty early to drive to the trailhead. All good!

Location: Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor, Malaysia.

Start point: 3.572510N, 101.738128E 289m a.s.l.

Summit: 3.543263N, 101.719998E 1092m a.s.l.

Difficulty: Moderate. No technical skills required, just a fair amount of stamina. The trail is not very steep, but it goes on for a fair amount of distance. Trail is easy to follow but has a fair number of obstacles (branches, fallen trees, etc.)

Duration: 3 hours 57 minutes (including break at summit & ruins)

Length: 6.5km

Average Speed: 1.6km/h

Max elevation: 1092m

Min elevation: 285m

Vertical Up: 992m

Vertical Down: 216m

This is probably the best hammock you can get for the price. It's made of sturdy material that will last. Re-enforced stitching ensures the hammock will stay together. The material is light-weight, making carrying easier. Packing the hammock in the self-contained bag is simple and has ample room to fit the hammock.

The best part is, although the description indicates it comes with two ropes, mine came with two heavy-duty, 8-foot reflective straps. These straps are great and will make hanging the hammock a breeze.

While looking for some camping gear on Craigslist, I found this absolutely mint condition 1992 Kelty Super Tioga External Frame Backpack On Craigslist for $50. After watching another Youtuber making modifications to his external frame backpack I thought it might be cool to do the same thing. I did a quick search on Craigslist and found the Kelty for $50. I thought it was a steal. It looked brand new. I tried it on and the pack itself is super comfortable and there is so much room to pack my gear. I haven't taken it in the woods yet but I hope to very soon.
